Korean Ideas of Beauty

♥ Honey Thighs ♥

The term “Honey thighs,”  which isn’t a derogatory term in modern Korean culture (well I don’t think so) – although some netizens have found controversy with the term, as you can read HERE via All K Pop- instead, it’s a high compliment praising women who have immaculate ,thin looking thighs with no cellulite. K-Poppers blessed with “Honey Thighs,” include (the queen of Honey Thighs) UEE from Afterschool, Tiffany from SNSD (Girl’s Generation) and Hyuna of 4-Minute. Humph, people can call me Honey Thighs any day if it’s such a compliment!

♥ Ulzzang ♥

the Korean craze of Ulzzangs; you can read a full description of the meaning behind this look HERE, but in its simplest Korean to English translation it just means “best face.” However, don’t let these simple words define the, sometimes strange, culture of Ulzzang(ing?) as to look Ulzzang you must have BIG pupils, double eye-lids, fair/white skin, and a ‘cute’ nose and mouth- also, guys can be considered one too. If you google “Ulzzang,” you’ll find many tutorials on how to look like an Ulzzang, and here’s where the strange side of things comes in, because, there are some girls out there who aren’t natural Ulzzangs, but use heavy make up and even Photoshop to achieve the look. If you just google “Before and After Ulzzang” you’ll find some scary pictures. Furthermore, at times, they looks like manga girls come  to life, which just screams “Fetish!” to me. Lastly, the best Ulzzangs in Korea, in my opinion, are those who are naturally beautiful in this way and it seems that Korean culture agrees with me on this one, as many people have become famous simply for having an Ulzzang face- as you can see from the pics I’ve included above!

♥ Circle Lenses ♥

Part of the DNA of being or looking like an Ulzzang are having big pupils- circles lenses, help you achieve that look by being a contact lens which really overemphasis and creates a bigger looking pupil, you can see some before and after pics of using the lenses HERE. Some Korean stars use these lenses on a daily basis- to the point that, without them, they look like a whole other person!

♥ Eye Smile ♥

In Korean culture, an eye smile occurs when you smile and your eyes naturally arch into a half-moon shape. In layman terms, you smile, but your eyes end up half squinting at the same time! Which rather seems odd when Koreans go to great lengths to make their eyes appear bigger and even have surgery to do so- all that effort gone to waste. But to be honest, I love me a Korean eye smile any day, since it seems to convey beauty, innocence and friendliness all in one go (I wish I had an eye smile, rather than a stink eye LOL), and you too can achieve an eye smile -even me- just smile and really squint, hard. I’m of course joking because if you try doing so you might come off looking fake, crazy or even show too much teeth, but come on, whose to say these Korean celebs aren’t practicing their “eye smiles” in such a way at home, in front of the mirror?

♥ Aegyo-Sal ♥

Well, as strange as it may seem to us Non-Koreans who have a daily battle to get rid of our eye bags, South Koreans are actually fighting hard to gain some and if they don’t have any, they’ll ‘make’ some by surgery; but, hold on a minute, they don’t want just any kind of tired eye-bags, oh no my friends, they want some “Aegyo-Sal.” Eye bags that aren’t the dark, droopy ones we know of but little plump eye bags-. My question here though, is if you have Aegyo-Sal and get dark eye bags, will that mean you’ll get double the eye bags? Not a good look if so! Apparently these Aegyo-Sal babies mean the difference between normal looking eyes and eyes that look youthful and ‘charming’- looking at the above “With or without Aegyo-Sal” picture, do you think this rings true? For me, Aegyo-Sal is something very unique to Korea, and I’ve never seen a Korean without them. Looking at the above pictures, they do seem to make a bit of a difference by making people appear more youthful etc, but don’t these qualities all just tie in with the Korean love of Ulzzang type beauty?

to be continued....

Time Magazine Says Kpop is Going Global!

Big props for Johnny Noh and AllKpop for knowing that Kpop was going to be big and Time Magazine is now recognizing that.  Time interviewed Johnny and others about the growing popularity of Korean pop music.

“Korean artists are now out there,” says Johnny Noh, who runs the (AllKpop) site. “People like [Korean artists] and want to know more about them.”

For many artists in Korea’s booming music industry, social media like YouTube and Twitter have become crucial tools to reach audiences in formerly hard-to-access markets like the U.S. and Europe.
Korean artists are bypassing traditional outlets like radio and television, “aggressively steering their efforts to go international via the Internet,” says Bernie Cho, president of DFSB Kollective, a Seoul-based agency specializing in the international marketing of Korean pop acts.
“Social-media-savvy K-pop stars are now tweeting, YouTubing and Facebooking their way up music charts across and beyond Asia.”

Lee Min Ho's Personal Taste Look

Speaking of Jun Jin Ho (Lee Min Ho) in Personal Taste, I'm in love with his fashion sense. Suitable with LMH's tall & slim body, while acting as an architect, Lee Min Ho (Jun Jin Ho) never fails to attract female & even male viewers! If in the BBF days, he became a pioneer with his pama (permed-haired look) and now, Jun Jin Ho's spring look is definitely an It thing in Korea! There are many articles popped out since 31/3 which talked about Jun Jin Ho's fashion sense. And being generous today (hehe), I'd like to re-post an article regarding the It style :D

p/s: thr's a great deal of fashion tips also :P

[It style] Lee Min ho -- The flower is blooming

Lee Min Ho's Personal Taste look's popularity
Lee Min Ho, the charismatic character in "Boys Over Flowers" has returned. His comeback drama is MBC's Personal Taste where he plays Jun Jin Ho, an architect who owns an architectural firm and displays a 'dandy guy' image which is attracting a lot of attention from female viewers.
His style is such that he is mistaken to be a homosexual in the drama. It's not a cute and sleek look that's usually favored by female viewers, instead it is a simple and liberating 'business-look' that even male viewers can't help but want to follow the fashion sense.
Stylist Jung Hyesun (fyi, this stylist is close to Mino...he's known among Mino's fans as Mino's stylist unnie.hehe) is the one in charge of Lee Minho's fashion in the drama. She's going for a style where it will easily fit anyone and doesn't need too much time attending to. She also chose pastel colors in line with spring, and hardly used any accessories.
She explains that the main point is the 'slim suit-look'.
About 90% of the clothes that Lee Minho wore both for "Boys over flowers" and "Personal Taste" are custom made. His stylist said that there are not enough sponsored clothes suitable for the role he's playing that fit him well because he's tall and slim. Roughly 20 to 30 million won (USD 20 - 30 thousand) has been set aside to manufacture the clothes for him.
Many guys are starting to become interested in Lee Min ho's business-look. Instead of looking sophisticated and dazzling, the simple well-fitted suit has garnered a lot of interest.
A thin T-shirt and cardigan can be worn inside the jacket.

When the jacket is removed, it creates a gentle yet edgy look.

TIPS…
1. If one wishes to enhance the look, a patterned cardigan or a scarf would complete it.

2. Ankle length pants....gives off a 'soft' image
Guys tend to resist wearing ankle length pants at first glance since they are worried that it would appear feminine. Actually, when the drama aired its first episode, quite a lot of viewers were shocked when they saw Min Ho's fashion in the drama. However, Lee Min Ho's long legs brought about a different sensation to the unfamiliar fashion style. The ankle length pants is more comfortable for moving around, matches a city-job feel, without the weariness of a semi-formal attire. It's easy to mix and match with different styles,
creating a hot trend for the new generation.

3. Sneakers... Say NO to socks!
Although Lee Min Ho's wearing suits, he's not wearing leather shoes. He's going for loafers and sneakers that matches well with the ankle length pants. The point is to not wear socks when wearing sneakers. The "sanuk" brand costs 50 thousand won (USD$50).

SHINee cranks up futuristic for ‘Lucifer’

After almost 10 months of hiatus, the shining boys of SHINee are back with a brand, spanking new concept that leaves most of our mouths hanging wide open with only one thought, ‘what happened to them?’ Well, in my opinion, I think the future SHINee decided to come out and play in this era.
The five boys are back with new hairstyles, new clothes and new songs. Though certainly, their unique sense of fashion this time round irks even the most fashion-illiterate.

The boys, Onew, Jonghyun, Taemin, Minho and Key are seen looking very futuristic with their knee-high metallic boots and their outerwear giving off a very glossy look. Their style this time round seems to be a future-kind of bad-boy look, but at the same time, it’s almost relatively quite weird to be looked at.

SHINee’s resident fashionable diva, Key, dons on a very shocking hairstyle – one where half his hair has been shaved off. Underneath his black biker jacket, he wears nothing (too bad he’s not showing us anything) with a clear visor hanging loosely around his neck. Most fans have been shocked by this new drastic change for Key, but as sources shows, it seems that Key was the one who suggested for this new hairstyle.

Shining leader, Onew, had been the talk of the town when his teaser photos revealed him to have a center-parting hairstyle, putting many fangirls into thinking that maybe, just maybe, Onew’s trying to pull off the classic H.O.T. look. His white vest almost blends in with his skin tone and to complete the look, Onew shows off his amazingly built arms for all.

Flaming Charisma Minho finally flashes his rock-hard abs that he’s been keeping away from the prying eyes of fangirls for the first time ever since their debut back in 2008. With his new short crop-cut hairstyle, the feather-like headgear and the simple white jeans that he wears (while being shirtless) emphasizes on his masculinity. Minho looks like he’s set to join the cast of Peter Pan anytime soon. Maybe he could be one of the lost boys?

While fellow member, Key, loses his hair, SHINee’s cutie pie, Taemin, actually gains hair on his head. And my oh my, no longer can you call Taemin a kid or a cutie pie anymore. The boy has grown, built his body up and is definitely looking sexier than ever. Donning on red loose jeans, with his solid knee-high boots and glossy black vest, Taemin brings sexy a whole new meaning for this era. With his arms built and his hair in a ponytail, how can anyone ever resist this boy?

Last but definitely not the least, Jonghyun bares his sexy back for us all in his teaser photo and comes back with an elegant black collared shirt complete with a simple black outwerwear which shows us a fierce sense of elegance while at the same time, he manages to stay sexy even though he’s all covered up.

SHINee's Lucifer MV is Rockin' My Day !!

To accompany their second full-length album, SHINee released their music video for “Lucifer.”

From the concept images, teaser video, and album, SHINee is maturing right before our eyes. It’s hard to imagine that these boys were once singing a love song to their nunas with their debut song “Replay.”
One thing that remains the same is their catchy songs and even catchier dance moves showcased in the video.
SHINee makes their comeback performance on July 23rd on KBS Music Bank.

SHINee’sLucifer music video has been released! The teaser photos released prior to the video didn’t say much, but the music video will have everyone picking up their jaws. These pretty boys have suddenly changed into bad boys…
Releasing a charismatic aura, the transformation has all the ladies changing their minds of the boys who once sang, “Noona, you’re so pretty.” I can guarantee SHINee will win more than a couple of awards now that we have seen the choreography to this amazing song.
Let  talk about the hair. Minho has finally decided to cut his hair and clean himself up. Taemin‘s hair seems a bit long to me, but he works it. Onew is looking very Japanese. Jonghyun‘s hair is a bit untidy and lacking structure for my liking. Key…OK, let him have that one.

 ♥ and i really love Taemin's Hairstyle ♥
